HPV: Stay Informed, Stay Healthy
Early detection is key
The HPV vaccine is a powerful tool to protect you from the types of HPV that cause most cancers and warts, making it your best defense. Regular check-ups with a doctor or trusted healthcare provider are important for overall health.
Early signs to know
Most HPV infections show no symptoms and clear up on their own. When signs do happen, watch for:
Genital warts Small bumps or clusters that appear on or around the genitals.
Skin changes Unusual spots, bumps, or growths that look different from your normal skin.
Mouth/throat issues (rare) Hoarseness, sore throat, or lumps inside the mouth or throat.
Later signs Long-term HPV can cause cell changes that may lead to cancer if not caught early.
Testing & Diagnosis

- Routine HPV testing is available for people with a cervix, helping detect changes that could lead to cervical cancer.
- There’s no FDA-approved test for those without a cervix, but symptoms like genital warts or unusual growths should be checked by a provider.
- Early detection matters—regular checkups are key.
